Having your own local corner shop makes you feel more rooted and "at home," I believe. Someone who recognizes you every time you walk in and asks how your day is. From the outside it doesn't look much but from the inside it is the opposite; friendly and personal. The standard question to us, when we walk in, is: "The same as usual?" "Sim, por favor." Ten minutes later we pleasantly leave our Emporio with mortadella, salami, Chilean olives, onion pate and a chunk of tender meat. No vitamins this time.
