I'm desperately trying to get hold of my friend Makhan to ensure that him and all our children are doing well and are safe. So far I have no confirmation.
Through Facebook I got to know that my friend Sushila, who works as a teacher for SOS Children's Villages, is doing fine but can't return to her apartment.
Why do the majority of natural disasters, with widespread destruction, always occur in already poor regions where resources and infrastructure exist to a minimum, I always wonder.
