Ilhabela is an island along the coast of the state of São Paulo and about a good two hours drive (without traffic) from the city of São Paulo. My kindhearted friend Ariane aka "The Favela Doctor" and her husband invited us to stay with them, on their boat, for the weekend. It was a weekend of freedom and pristine nature. No musts, no traffic, no stress, no balada, no ironed shirts and no news about World Cup demonstrations. Just natural beauty, refreshing swims, empty beaches, rain forests, afternoon cocktails and great company. Once back home on Sunday evening, it felt as if we had been gone for a week and not only for 36 hours. We are privileged to live in this beautiful country. Brazil surely has a lot to offer and to explore!
