Football Loving Brazil

Last Sunday, The Flying Dutchman and his football team played against Ajax, a local "Dutch loving" Sao Paulo team, in Itaquera, in the North of the city. The game was part of a research project where a Dutch team (not football) has looked into the socio/economic changes of the Itaquera area produced by the construction of the stadium and the World Cup. One could spend a full day arguing for and against hosting the World Cup in Brazil. All in all, it was a very friendly game with beers flowing after the match. Keep in mind, on fields like these are where most of the Brazilian football stars were born...

After the game, and 8 km away, we passed the Sao Paulo Fifa Stadium, Itaquera, and it doesn't look promising. As you can see, the left side looks more or less completed whereas the opposite side is simply a skeleton. This stadium will host the opening game, between Brazil and Croatia, on 12 June, 5pm. Less than a month to go… Yallah yallah!
