Uruguay Day 1

My cute hotel in Montevideo.

Needless to say, I felt very safe in my hotel. A fortress for the princess.

Friday fruit market around the corner. Love it.

Having a late brekkie/ early lunch and planning my outing of the day. Arrived in Montevideo 8am on Friday morning.

Exactly what the sign says.

Really like the architecture, which I associate with Latin America, especially in the Spanish speaking countries.

Visited Mercado Del Puerto. Busy with people having long lunches waiting for their tenderly barbecued red meat and red wine.

Ops, got a fly in my soda while I was writing postcards. Yes, I still do that. I have my permanent four.

A beautiful green park with a clean fountain without tons of coins. A park to commemorate (people like me) about yet another battle against the colonial powers. Perfect place to do "people watching" and reflect upon your life. How come I ended up in Uruguay...?

Here and there old houses falling apart. Bummer.

A naval institution. Always a plus to visit a city that is surrounded by a dominant coastline.

Creative Uruguayans that appreciate recycling, just like the Swedes. Very comfy, too!

All in all, I liked Montevideo and it strongly thought of it as being a younger brother of Buenos Aires. Very similar but much smaller. Some areas made me think of Belgrade, Istanbul and Vienna. Great temperature and no sweat down on my lower back while strolling around. One day is enough and then you've seen it all.

  1. Wow! Det ser väldigt spännande ut. Fantastisk arkitektur som på många platser i Latinamerika. Skulle vara intressant att besöka tillsammans med Buenos Aires vid nästa trip till Brasilien.

    Myss lillasyster!
