Swedish Watch

On the boat we were all divided into three groups all being part of the watch. This was really enjoyable since it made you feel included in the sailing itself as well as it gave you a level of responsibility towards your new friends. Our captain, Gerben, chose to operate under the Swedish Watch System implying the following schedule: 8am-2pm, 2pm-8pm, 8pm-12pm, 12pm-4am, 4am-8am. Once you were done with your shift you had to ensure that the next team was in place before you bowed out. The further South we got the more freely floating icebergs we encountered, hence we had ice watch. Since it became incredibly cold our ice watches were only 15 min each. Standing in the front of the ship, with a walkie talkie, you were bound to inform the captain, in the back, about all the deceiving icebergs coming in our way. A few times I tried to order an Irish Coffee through the walkie talkie but it never materialized...
