Friday Prayer

Today, I paid my first mosque visit in Brazil by joining Friday Prayers in Mesquita Brasil Mosque, which is Brazil's first. It was built in the 1940s, for the city's Syrian and Lebanese population. I find it is so beautfiul when the muezzin calls to prayer, followed by the imam praying Arabic. For me, it is meditation. This time I had to wear a white "religious uniform," and not black, which was a new experience to me. I changed in a cute room where the clothing was nicely folded in a chest of drawers. The mosque offered a very pleasant atmosphere and welcoming people. Once prayers were over, we were served a nice Arabic lunch. (Can never get enough of hummus and tabbouleh). Must emphasis, it was a very nice feeling to be back in the realm of my academic and professional interest and expertise.
